No one can stop her.
I travel frequently, both for work and because of the decisions I’ve made about the architecture of my life.
Over the years I’ve developed a few routines and rituals: I was, for example, wiping down every airplane surface long before Naomi Campbell publicly validated the behaviour.
Before I travel, I try to clean or at the very least tidy up the space I’ll be returning to. There are few things quite so delicious as getting back from a trip, taking a comforting shower, and then settling into the nice clean sheets that you remembered to change before you left. If I’m staying in a hotel, I leave at least a $5 tip every day.
Once I get to my destination, even if it’s only an overnight, I’ll hang the things that need hanging and put my toiletries in the bathroom. I do the same thing at the other end — I can’t stand to have unpacked bags hanging around. And I’ll restock the toiletry kit, which I keep ready in my carry-on along with a one-piece bathing suit, an empty water bottle, and a backup pair of headphones.
