Your silence will not protect you
When I am stuck, I read. This week I mostly read Lisa Halliday’s Asymmetry and Red Rising by Pierce Brown (both of which I borrowed as e-books using Libby).
It is not that reading necessarily gets me un-stuck; it is that books remind me of all the ways people can move, and be moved.
Books are not an escape mechanism; they are a reminder that reality is always only ever one motivated villain away from what we like to think of as dystopian fiction.
Have you heard the one about stochastic terrorism? What will we do when someone tries to murder Ilhan Omar because we do not appear to have the courage to protect her?
